Employees are very particular about being paid for every second that they work whereas employers wish to cut down their costs by reducing the number of hours worked, sometimes even compensating for overtime by sending the employee home early. Unfortunately, the law is on the side of the employees on this and mandates that all overtime be paid and no tricks such as adjustments on time cards, work done, time zones, etc. are taken well by the Department of Labour. Hoodwinking the Department can lead to fines, court fees and even jail for the employer, so do make sure that all overtimes are calculated accurately and paid on a weekly basis.
