Karius Aims To Diagnose Infectious Disease

Medical technology has come a long way since the introduction of genetics. This coupled with the strides we have made with sequencers that can read the entire Genome of an individual, whether animal, insect or even human has lead to novel medical techniques and interventions that have forced us to look at medical care and the approach we take to dealing with disease to a whole new level.

While a few years age, diagnosing a disease definitively would take at least a week in the lab, today, we can do it all in less than twenty four hours. One such example is the Karius Test. This test uses next generation sequencers to scan the blood of a patient to detect remnants of microbial activity of over 1,250 microbes.  Now that is definitely worth writing about.
